I wish I was talented. I wish I was one of those people that if you needed someone to _____ they would turn to you because you are the best _____er they know.
I wish I could sing. I can blend pretty good - so I guess I'm perfect for a choir or chorus. I love to sing in the car - and when I have the actual singer along with me, it's not bad. Just take away the vocals and it's a whole different story. I have a very good friend who has the most amazing voice. He sang at my wedding and just blew me away. I had him sing between the attendents and my entrance just so I could stand in the back with my daddy and be able to enjoy his voice before walking down the aisle.
I wish I could play the piano. My grandfather was a wonderful pianist and organist. I don't have the hand span needed to make a full chord - and to be honest I don't have the coordination it takes to play two different things with my hands. There are many great pianists in my family. I guess it just skipped me. I do, however, have my grandfather's piano. I really need to find a new place to keep it - it's too heavy for my mobile home floor and the room where it is has a slight tilt towards where it sits now.
I wish I could sew. I tried sewing when I was in high school and again when I was in my first apartment. I just get distracted and don't keep my eye on the seams, so I tend to have crooked lines. Not good. My mother and grandmother could sew pretty much anything. I have dolls my grandmother (Nan) made me - and a teddy bear my mom made me. My niece, Susan, seems to have inherited the sewing gene - she makes the cutest bags.
I wish I could draw or paint. My brother is an amazing artist. My stick people don't even look right. I do have a set of paints, pencils and watercolors that I bought a few years ago that I've not opened yet. When I come home in the twilight hours I am enthralled with the colors of the mountains and how they blend into the sky. I want to capture it in watercolors, but again, don't really know how. I guess I just need to break them out and play with them and see how they work.
I wish I could bake and cook. I can do fine with the basics - cake mixes, burgers, pot roast... I want to be able to bake a cake and decorate it and have it look like something. Perhaps I watch too many of the cake decorating shows - they make it looks so easy and you find yourself thinking: "Heck, I could do better than that!" I would love to just whip something up from what I have in the fridge without having to follow a recipe and have it taste like something.
Hmmm, what can I do? Well, I can crochet and knit. I haven't figured out how to follow a pattern in knitting that involves changing colors unless it's at the end of a row. However, my mother can and I need to get her to show me this winter. I am able to follow most other patterns and have it look like what it's supposed to. I love to do yarn-work - especially in the winter. It gets a bit hot to work on larger projects in the summer.
Is there a talent you wish you had?

You know, I'm not sure I really believe in "talent"! Okay, some people pick things up really quickly, but I think some of it is just about devoting a lot of time and energy to something. I bet if you wanted to spend lots and lots of hours on any one of those things... you could become great at it!
But... if you never became good at anything, so what? I'm a terrible singer currently, but I love to sing anyway!
